I took my 4 year old son to Dr Zak after a referral from our local dentist. My son had quite a few cavities two of which were pretty bad. Dr Zak came up with a treatment plan that included four pulpotomies and stainless steel caps and several fillings spread out over two appointments. They would not do any work on him, even though he was in pain, until after they heard back from our insurance company on what would be covered on the $4500 estimate. It took a couple anxiety and guilt filled weeks to hear back from the insurance company, they would only pay less than half leaving us with a large amount out of pocket. Dr Zak wanted $680 just to schedule his first appointment then another $680 before they did any work at the time of the appointment. I decided to get a second opinion and it was the best decision I have ever made. My son does have a few cavities and needs some work but nowhere near what Dr Zak said he needs. Our new dentist came up with a treatment plan that is much more realistic for our average working class family. I know that medical/dental opinions will differ from doctor to doctor but this was ridiculous. Basically I would absolutely NOT recommend Dr Zak to anyone, ever. If you do go to him and are questioning the treatment plan and amount of money they want you should probably get a second opinion.

We paid our bill and are looking for a new dentist.

My story: Two of our daughters needed some baby teeth extracted. The out of pocket estimate was $440, which we paid. A few months later we received a bill in the mail for an additional $460 after insurance. Mind you, we have a great insurance plan (Blue Cross PPO). I thought paying over $900 out of pocket for two short procedures was a bit excessive. I also thought an estimate being off by over 100% was misleading. So, I asked if they would be willing to reduce part of my out of pocket expenses as an act of good faith and to keep us as customers. They said "no". In other words, they chose the extra $460 over keeping me as a client. Personally, I think this speaks volumes.

Warning: They are out of network with most insurance providers. According to their office manager, they are only in-network with one provider which I have never heard of before.

My 5 year old son needed a LOT of dental work stemming from a medical condition...Dr. Zak and his team were quick (which means a LOT in kid minutes!), caring and did excellent work! My son is begging me to take him back! I knew Dr. Zak was the dentist for us because I had him as a dentist when I was a child. I trust him completely. I've even had other dentists complement his work years later. Plus, a tooth fairy castle?! How could it get any better?!

The girls answering the phone and at the desk were so very nice! We don't have dental insurance and everyone was really nice about it. My son does have a cavity and they explained everything and broke down my payment options. Dr. Zak also explained everything and I had a lot of questions. Everyone was very attentive and we will be back soon. He really took his time to make sure all of my questions were answered. This was our second opinion but we will be back. Dr. Zak and his entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable! Thanks- you guys are great.

I have been meaning to do this for weeks. I usually do not take the time to write reviews but Dr. Zak and his assistants are GREAT, the ladies at the front desk are very nice too. I did not bring my older son to a pediatric dentist when he was little. I have two little girls and Dr Zak came highly recommended. I cannot express to you how he was so kind and was so patience with both of my girls. My five year old went somewhere else and was really scared. I brought my five year old and two year old to the castle this summer. I highly recommend Dr Zak to anyone looking for a doctor who is great with kids and takes the time to explain everything. Thank you so much
